Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is an eBook?
A. An ebook is an electronic book. It is also called a digital book. This means that it is a document that you can download to your computer from the Internet and then read it on your monitor. Our eBooks are available in 3 different formats: Digital, Digital with Printing Enabled and a hard copy printed out for you.
Q. Is it difficult to tune a piano?
A. Anyone with average ability and physical strength can learn to tune a piano. It is not difficult to understand the theory of piano tuning but it does take practice to become good at it. How long it takes for you will depend on how much time you have to work at it.
Q. Do you offer any assistance if I get stuck?
A. Yes, I offer 2 hours of free consultation by email with the purchase of any of my eBooks.
Q. Do I need to spend a lot of money on tools to learn piano tuning?
A No, a basic tuning kit sells for $79.95. This includes a student tuning hammer (lever), tuning fork, temperament strip and rubber mutes. That is all you need to get started. If you wish to be able to do major repair work later on, you will, of course, need to purchase additional tools.
Q. Do you have a money-back guarantee?
A. Yes, I offer a 1-year money back guarantee on any of my eBooks. If my information does not suit your needs or you just decide that this tuning business is not for you, I will cheerfully refund the total amount of your purchase. No questions asked. Period.
Q. How long have you been in business?
A. I began my piano tuning career in 1965. I have been tuning pianos ever since. I have also owned and operated my own piano rebuilding shop, although now that I am trying to slow down a bit, I am only doing tuning & small repairs.
Q. Why are you making this information available on the Internet?
A. I have found that there are a number of people who are simply curious about how a piano is tuned since there is so little information on the subject that is readily available. They also want a simple, non-technical presentation of piano technology that the average person can understand. I have also been contacted by a number of people who live in isolated places where there is no piano technician available. Either they play on an out-of-tune piano, or they learn to tune it themselves.
Q. Do you have plans for making other information related to piano service available in the future?
A. Yes, I am working on several other projects, one of which is now completed. It is a complete scale design program for re-designing a piano scale. I have also created plans for building your own piano tuning tool case. Please check out these new items on my site under "eBooks".
Q. Can I purchase other piano tuning tools and supplies from you if I need them?
A. Yes, I have a complete line of tools & supplies available on my site. If there is anything that you need that is not listed, please contact me. I can get it for you.
Please note: We require a minimum order of $40.00 for piano tools & supplies (before shipping charges).
